Undefeatable Struggle Against Child Marriage

From 2019, Tanjila Tasnim has been engaged with WE CAN change maker. After receiving the training on SDG monitoring, Child Marriage Restraint Act, Gender Based Violence and Prevention Measurement etc., Tanjila built a social movement against child marriage with the help of siblings and local friends. Until now, she successfully protected three girl of Hariakuthi, Shahpara and Mondolpara from the terrible trap of child marriage.

When she was informed about child marriage in Hariakuthi, she informed police through calling 999. But the police did not came in wedding house. Tanjila tried to reach out the police and called them repeatedly. Her dedication vibrated the issue and police went to the spot when the marriage process was almost done. Police stopped the marriage but the police person was annoyed and shared the phone no to the local government representative secretly. Next day, some unknown person phoned her and introduced himself from police department and took the detail address of her. After the call, the local chairman and his followers came to Tanjila’s house and threated her parents and scolded her for stopping the child marriage. The whole incident made a dishonor for her family and Tanjila’s father shattered. He tried to stop her study and attempted to send her working at garments sector.

But Tanjila was bold and determined about her work. She communicated with Amrai Pari and Amrai Pari supported her work. She also talked her father and made him understood that she must do something for this society. She also told her father that child marriage must be eradicated from this society, as it destroyed a girl’s life. Her father understood, began to support and advised her to work consciously.

On 2021, Tanjila Tasnim was awarded as ‘We Can Change maker’ in National Conference to End Violence against Women.
