Enlighten against Darkness Campaign is for demanding the freedom of movement of women in Bangladesh

On the celebration of International Women’s Day 2022, We CAN Bangladesh (Amrai Pari) , a platform working for women’s rights, started a hashtag campaign in social media to demand the freedom of movement of women. This year the theme of International Women’s Day was #Breakthebias. In every year, Amrai Pari observed the 8th March by the oath ceremony of enlightenment against darkness with the gatherings of women at the prominent and historical place called Shaheed Minar. The objective of the ceremony is to break the darkness of mind which hinders the freedom of movement of women.

This year Amrai Pari used the social media hashtag tools to campaign the message instead of physical program considering the COVID-19 situation in Bangladesh. Moreover 150 human rights activists, women’s rights activist, lawyers, journalists, students, development workers engaged with this campaign by posting own picture with candle with #EnlightenagainstDarkness on their Facebook timeline. Through this repeated posting of messages, it reached above 5000 Facebook users in Bangladesh.

Amrai Pari strongly demand to ensure equality and equal participation of men and women in all spheres and secure every time, every place, and every moment for women. Jinat Ara Haque, Chief Excutive, Amrai Pari said, “We demand every woman to able to move freely, safely and without fear at any time of the day or night, 24 hours. As a citizen, women must be allowed to enjoy their basic rights freely’.

Spreading this message to the all people of all walks, was the prime objective of this hashtag campaign.
